Showtime Stables has a Working Student Program for current students age 12 & up. We not only offer this program to kids, but adults as well. It gives our students a chance to do more of the "behind the scenes" work than traditional lessons as well as additional riding time. What is the Working Student Program?
The Working Student Program is designed to provide a fun and educational opportunity for our students to learn more about horsemanship.We also strive to teach our students the importance of responsibility, in a simulation of a real-life work experience. It also gives them a chance to earn extra lessons and/or riding time.
What do Working Students Do?
Working Students help keep the barn and lesson program running smoothly. Specific duties will vary, depending on experience, age and the needs of the barn during their shifts. Examples are: Smiling and providing a warm welcome to everyone entering the barn; sweeping the wash and grooming bays; raking the hall; cleaning the riding arena; filling water buckets; feeding; mucking stalls; loading and distributing hay; grooming and tacking horses for lessons or customers; leading horses for lessons & parites when needed picking up and cleaning the barn and surrounding area; cleaning tack; attending and assisting at horse shows; providing before and after care for camps; and assisting in normal daily activities.
What are the benefits?
For every 8 hours of quality work you provide, you will receive:
a 1/2 hour of Working Student lesson
1 - Free Open arena riding day on any of our Lesson/ Lease or Trail horses (This option is for the experienced, advanced or adult riders)
What are the requirements?
You must be 12 years of age or older, and have been in the lesson program for at least 2 months, and remain current with your regular lesson (at least 1 weekly). The Working Student lesson is either a 2nd Lesson or Free Open riding time. (Depending on the level of experience) Contact April for availability, information and to make arrangements to attend a Working Student Training Session. We do offer this option for Adults, it's a great opportunity to get out of the house.
